Some "notes" about me.

Wiard Brandsma, born March 1, 2003, Has started playing music since he was 14 years old. Since then, Wiard has always been very curious about the possibilities and freedom of music.

Wiards musical journey started with classical pieces, but he quickly discovered the freedom and joy of improvised genres like jazz and funk. Over the years, he joined various bands, played worship music in various churches and led various bands. His focus is always on groove, interplay and dynamics, which are essential for the best musical experience. Wiard likes to write his own music, but interaction is still central in this music: Each musician gets to add their own part to the compositions. Being in a band is like being part of a team, and this relationship is vital in music.

One of Wiard's true passions in music is interplay. He loves playing in duos, finding his musical voice through interactions and communicating without words with fellow musicians. Making music together and trying to "read each others minds" is what attracts him to duo's and music in general. According to Wiard, the three most important elements in music are rhythm (groove), dynamics, and interplay.

Wiard teaches at Muzieklesharderwijk.

Wiard draws inspiration from a lot of different artists, with artists like Cory Wong, Michel Petrucciani and Organ Freeman being his favorites.

In 2022, Wiard enrolled in the preparatory course at the HKU Utrecht Conservatory Jazz & Pop. In 2023 he continues his studies at the Artez Conservatory, studying Jazz in Arnhem. Wiard has had lessons with: Gussane van der Brink, Jozua Dieleman, Gé Bijvoet, and is currently studying under Jeroen van Vliet and Henrique Gomide at the conservatory of Arnhem.
