Some "notes" about me.

Wiard Brandsma (born March 1, 2003) started playing piano when he entered secondary school (VWO). What began with classical music soon grew into a fascination with improvisation, leading him to explore jazz, funk, and many other styles.

Over the years, he has performed with a wide range of bands, played in church worship teams, and led several ensembles. His playing is driven by groove, interaction, and dynamics. He believes these are the elements that make live music engaging and memorable.

Playing with other musicians is one of Wiard's greatest passions. He especially enjoys performing in duos, where communication happens almost entirely through the music. He is always looking for those moments when two musicians seem to anticipate each other's ideas without saying a word.

Alongside performing and writing his own music, Wiard enjoys teaching. At Muziekles Harderwijk, he helps students discover the piano in a way that matches their own interests and ambitions, whether they are complete beginners or more experienced players.

His musical influences include artists such as Toots Thielemans, Michel Petrucciani, and Organ Freeman. In 2022, he completed the Jazz & Pop preparatory programme at the HKU Conservatory in Utrecht. Since 2023, he has been studying Jazz Piano at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem. During his musical education, he has studied with Gussane van der Brink, Jozua Dieleman, Gé Bijvoet, and he currently studies with Jeroen van Vliet and Henrique Gomide.
